The Plunge’s Black Book: Horses Running At Kensington & Eagle Farm 2/1
January 1, 2021

The first Saturday of the new year has seen 6 blackbooked runners across Kensington and Eagle Farm.
Randwick
Race 5 – 2 Edison
After strong back-to-back wins Edison is a deserved short price favourite but there is no reason for The Plunge’s followers to jump off now after being on for both of those wins. The mile and the wet track will suit his tough style of racing and although he goes up 3kg in weight, he will benefit from a drop in class. There also doesn’t appear to be an abundance of pace on paper, which is a big tick.
Tip: 2 Units Win Edison @ $2.2
Race 7 – 7 De Grawin
De Grawin earned a spot in the blackbook after a recent trial where the 4yo mare sat wide on the speed in a trial where they went relatively quick up front. She remained strong late, winning the trial under a stranglehold from Rachel King who retains the ride here despite winning on the second favourite last start. She comes off a flawless preparation last time in where she worked through the grades winning at Wyong, Nowra and finishing the prep with a win at Randwick, all those wins came on wet tracks. Looks a good bet.
Tip: 3 Units Win @ $4.5

Race 8 – 4 Cisco Bay
On a day at Randwick where on-pace favouritsm was evident, Cisco Bay was a rare example of a horse that was able to flash home from the tail of the field to finish 3rd. He loves a wet track but showed the start before that he is in career-best form by winning the Nowra Cup on a dry surface.
I was hoping for a rise in distance to 1800m so coming back to 1550m from 1600m isn’t ideal but I will still be having something small on here provided the track stays wet and I’ll be looking for a wet track over 1800m next start.
Tip: 1 Unit Win Cisco Bay @ $8
Eagle Farm
Race 8 – 12 Hilo
Hilo was terrific last start finishing 2nd to Edison on a wet track over 1400m after being freshened with a 5-week break. I think the 1400m is right at the maximum of his distance range but I love the booking of the strong Nash Rawiller to help get him over the line over the last 50m. I’m a bit bewildered by the price the Cumming’s 4yo gelding has come up. He is in career best form and brings form from Sydney’s strongest races this time of year.
Tip: 1 Unit EW Hilo @ $14/4
Race 9
- 2. Athiri
- 9. Blazing Miss
Two blackbooked horses with different form lines have lobbed in the final race of the day at Eagle Farm here. Athiri returned from a short break winning a trial at Rosehill where she added another string to her bow leading all the way. She kicks off a Queensland campaign on the back of that and will be hard to beat here.
Blazing Miss was impressive in a recent Randwick trial where she led and was too strong for Easy Eddie late, a horse who is in the market in a listed race at Canterbury on Friday and also had the benefit of a recent race before that trial. Worth a shout at the double figure odds.
Tip: 2 Units Win Athiri @ $4.4 & 1 Unit Win Blazing Miss @ $14
