The Forgive, Forget and Follow Files 8/5

After the weekend of Group 1 racing we assess the horses you need to forgive, forget and to follow heading into the coming weeks and months.

Forgive

Hush Writer – Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott

10th of 10 in the 2100 metre Listed Gosford Cup (Gosford)

He has had a disappointing preparation and hasn’t won for almost two years but there were plenty of excuses for the six-year-old over the weekend. Similar to his previous start in the Sydney Cup, he was caught wide the journey and the soft track was against him.

Forget

Vanna Girl – Toby & Trent Edmonds

11th of 14 in the 1800 metre Group 2 Hollindale Stakes (Gold Coast)

Is a very good horse on her day but probably a couple of lengths off Group 1 level. The Hollindale was only a Group 2 but did have multiple Group 1 winners in the field and she looked outclassed once again, similar to her runs in big Group 1’s including the Queen of the Turf, Empire Rose and the Epsom. To be fair she has won a Group 2 in Queensland but it was age restricted and if she were to line up in Group 1 company she is one to avoid.

Follow

Blondeau – Chris Waller

1st of 8 in the 1200 metre Benchmark 78 (Gosford)

Apart from Ayrton, this gelding is the obvious one to follow from the weekend. It was only a benchmark 78 but he outclassed his rivals and is a three-year-old with some real talent. Don’t forget he ran 4th in a Group 3 BJ McLachlan and 3rd in the Group 2 Todman as a two-year-old and looks to have found that form and is a horse on the up.

Blazejowski – Greg Eurell

3rd of 8 in the 1100 metre Handicap (Caulfield)

Slow out the gates and was snagged back to last before showing a nice turn of foot to rattle off some slick sectionals including the day’s fastest last 200 metres to power home into 3rd. For a horse who competed in Group 1 level last preparation he is one to follow heading into the Winter months and should be winning next start.
