The Forgive, Forget and Follow Files 22/5

After the weekend of Group 1 racing we assess the horses you need to forgive, forget and to follow.

Forgive

Wycliff – Danny O’Brien

8th of 8 in the 2500 metre Benchmark 84 (Flemington)

Nothing has come out post race on this galloper but the run was too bad to be true. Tailed off last finishing 49.5 lengths behind Heart of Puissance isn’t a true representation of the lightly raced stayer and must be forgiven before we see him next start. He won the Listed Port Adelaide earlier this month and is a stayer on the rise here in Australia.

Pandemic – James Cummings

10th of 15 in the 1200 metre Listed Straight Six (Flemington)

Came into the race as favourite after running behind Savatoxl last start who went on to win the Group 1 Goodwood. However, Pandemic couldn’t quite replicate the form in the listed sprint over the weekend but pulled up with an internal bleed so is a forgive moving forward.

Forget

The whole field behind Zaaki

2000 metre Group 1 Doomben Cup

A bit of tongue in cheek this but Zaaki absolutely pantsed his rivals over the weekend. Yes, some of those behind him had excuses whilst some were having their swan song but it is hard to see the rest of them measuring up at Group 1 level anytime soon. I’m looking at you Toffee Tongue, Brandenburg and Shared Ambition. These gallopers may measure up to Group 1 level in time but it’s going to be mighty difficult to turn the tables on Zaaki, who looks a WFA superstar in the making.

Follow

Tofane – Michael Moroney

2nd of 15 in the 1350 metre Group 3 BRC Sprint (Doomben)

Was listed to be sold in the Gold Coast Magic Millions Broodmare Sales earlier today but connections withdrew her with an eye towards the Group 1 Stradbroke after her big run over the weekend. The Group 1 winner looks to have got in well at the weights and will carry 54.5kg in a fortnight’s time. One to follow in that race.
