THE EDGE: Friday 17/9 – NSW Provincial & Country Service

Preview and Staking plan for a strong meeting at Newcastle on Friday. The meeting includes 3 G3’s with the Newcastle Gold Cup the feature.

Newcastle Race 3
Elected

Was a bit green last start but really liked the way he extended late. Bounding on jumping and settled off-midfield on the back of a genuine tempo. Was good on Aus debut finishing 4th 1.1L at P MQ at $2.8. Expect to be a bit closer here without much speed outside of Akhtar and Edmonton. Dylan Gibbons sticks and utilises a handy 3kg claim here.

0.75u Elected $8

Newcastle Race 5
Dhakuri

Second up. Went to the line ok first up but will strip fitter second up. Improved over 7L second up last prep and hit the line very well on that occasion. Christian Reith in the saddle, soft draw and up to his best distance. He may be a bit smart for these.

2u Dhakuri $3.5

Newcastle Race 6
Mirra Vision

Resuming from a let-up. Rates well fresh. Went to the paddock after a handy win in BM88 company over 1400. Has since won a trial against some handy types in Big Parade and Promise of Success. Gates the obvious issue but has enough speed to cover and be handy.

0.75u Mirra Vision $8.5

Newcastle Race 7
Criminal Code

Finished 2nd last start over 2100m, was held up in the straight. Really liked the way he extended and made ground late. Ready for this trip. Will have to go back from the wide gate but should enjoy a fast gallop behind a genuine speed. Handles all goings.

0.5u Criminal Code $11
No Compromise

He comes in under notice here. Was freshened up prior to last start over 2000m at Kembla where he really extended late. That is short of his best distance, he rates better over the mile and a half. Can settle a bit closer from the soft draw here. Will enjoy the speed and getting out to his best distance.

0.3u No Compromise $16

Queanbeyan Race 3
Uno Tops

Has shown good signs last two starts. Missed the start over 3L on both occasions but extended well late. He’ll enjoy the mile on the quick back-up.

Kayla Nisbet sticks. Is here under the radar and is value at nearly $20

0.5u EW Uno Tops $19/5

Queanbeyan Race 3
Nephradiva

Resumes here. Won well on debut at short odds over 900. Faded late second-up when stepping up to the 1200 and then went to the paddock. Has the speed to cover the wide draw. A repeat of that debut effort and she’ll take beating.

1.5u Nephradiva $4.4

*+0.5u after scratchings (2u Total)
