Trial Review: Horses That Caught The Eye At The Trials This Week 20/3

Randwick and Warwick Farm hosted Sydney trials this week. Our analyst has black booked 6 runners, including a Waller filly that hit the line strongly and lines up at the midweeks on Wednesday.

Surfs Up

The Waller filly settled at the rear and clocked a fast final 600m to score a 0.1L win in her 1050m Randwick trial. She looked great lengthening stride when J Mac let her go down the outside. She only has one win from 6 career starts, which should provide some betting opportunities when she is working through the grades. She looks a bet lining up in Race 6 at Kensington this Wednesday.

Spirit of Wealth

The Freedman grey jumped well from the wide gate in her 750m Randwick trial before sitting 4 and 5 wide on-speed. Berry barely had to move on her up the straight as she held off the likes of Lady of Camelot, Jokers Grin and Plaintiff in the 2nd fastest 750m trial of the morning.

Idle Flyer

The Smith mare looks to be progressing along nicely towards the Queen of the Turf in 3 weeks time. She settled 1 back on the rail in her 1200m Warwick Farm trial before letting down nicely to score a 2.2L win. It will be interesting to see if they keep her fresh for her G1 target or whether she lines up in the G2 Emancipation over 1500m at Rosehill this coming Saturday, where I think she would be a bet if she draws a gate.

Cellphone

The unraced Waller 3yo looks one to look out for in maiden company after a 2nd consecutive impressive effort in his Warwick Farm trial. He settled towards the rear before making a strong run down the outside under minimal riding from Clipperton. He only just missed to finish 0.04L 2nd to a horse under a lot more pressure.

Hayek

The Baker 3yo looks to have really strengthened after going straight to the front of his 795m Warwick Farm trial and scorching away for a massive 10.5L win in a trial that included the speedy Way To The Stars and Winston Hills.  He will need to stretch it out to at least 1000m and would be a risk 1st up as he did severely over race in the middle parts of his trial.

Mawjood

The Baker 4yo returned with a 1.4L 750m trial win at Warwick Farm where he went straight to the front and stayed there the whole way without be asked to do much. It was obvious that the stable held a strong opinion of him last prep when he was sent out to the Coonamble Cup after a big Rosehill win and then backed up 6 days later in the Big Dance Wildcard with the hope of scoring a start in the feature at Randwick on Melbourne Cup Day. He seemed to be flattened by the travels but looks to be going well after a break.
