Stephen Curry sets Warriors record for most points in franchise history
April 14, 2021
Stephen Curry of Akron, Ohio made Golden State Warriors history on Monday. In a 116-107 Warriors win over the Denver Nuggets, Curry set the Warriors franchise record for most points in a career with 17, 818. The great Wilt Chamberlain had 17, 783 points with the Philadelphia/San Francisco Warriors from 1959 to 1965 according to Sam Quinn of CBS Sports.
It was simply a fantastic performance by Curry on Monday. He scored a game-high 53 points in the nine-point Golden State win. In addition to scoring 45.3% of the Warriors’ total points in the game, Curry also had six defensive rebounds and four assists. He made 15 of his 16 free throw attempts, 14 of 24 field-goal attempts, and 10 of 18 three-pointers.
On the season, Curry is averaging a career-high 30.4 points per game. A major reason for his increased point production is because he is getting to the free-throw line more now than ever before in his career. Curry is averaging a career-high 5.6 points per game from the charity stripe.
Interestingly, the 53 points scored for Curry was not a season-high. That is because he scored a remarkable 62 points in a 137-122 Warriors win over the Portland Trail Blazers on January 3. Curry’s 62 points were the most by a single player in an NBA game this season.
The news was not good on Monday for the Denver Nuggets, and in effect Basketball Canada. That is because Nuggets star point guard Jamal Murray of Kitchener, Ontario tore his ACL and is gone for the season. The loss of Murray is not only a huge blow for the Nuggets in the 2021 NBA Playoffs, but for Team Canada as well. Murray was to be counted on as an important part of Team Canada in the quest to qualify and medal at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021.
