Stephen Curry shines for Warriors in 62-point performance

Stephen Curry was simply remarkable on Sunday night for the Golden State Warriors in their 137-122 win over the Portland Trail Blazers. Curry recorded a career-high 62 points in the Warriors’ win.

If you are wondering if that is a Warriors’ franchise record, it is simply not even close. That is because Wilt Chamberlain has not only the Warriors’ record, but the NBA record for most points in a game. Chamberlain had 100 points in a 169-147 Philadelphia Warriors win over the New York Knicks on March 2, 1962, from the Hershey Sports Arena in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

In the 15-point Golden State Warriors win over Portland on Sunday, Curry had five rebounds and four assists. He also made 18 of 31 field goal attempts, eight of 16 three-pointers, and 18 of 19 free throws. Curry had 21 points in the first quarter, 10 points in the second quarter, 14 points in the third quarter, and 17 points in the fourth quarter.

The last player to record 62 points in a game and record a victory was Carmelo Anthony. At the time, Anthony was with the New York Knicks in a 125-96 win over the Charlotte Bobcats on January 24, 2014. Now, Anthony is with the Trail Blazers, and was on the court for Portland Sunday night.

In an interesting game between Portland and Golden State on Friday, it was a notable contest for three Trail Blazers in their 123-98 win. Anthony moved into 14th place on the NBA All-Time scoring list (passing Tim Duncan) with 26,499 points. He now has 26, 509 points. Damian Lillard registered his 15,000th career point, and C.J. McCollum became only the second NBA player ever to record 25 three-pointers over the first five games of the season. Ironically, the only other player to accomplish that feat was Curry according to Jamie Hudson of NBC Sports.
