Steelers sign quarterback Mitch Trubisky

According to Jaclyn Hendricks of the New York Post on Monday, the Pittsburgh Steelers have signed quarterback Mitch Trubisky of Mentor, Ohio to a two-year contract worth $14.25 million. Trubisky will be joining his third National Football League franchise after four seasons with the Chicago Bears and last season as a backup with the Buffalo Bills.

While backing up Josh Allen in 2021, Trubisky completed six of eight passes for 43 yards and one interception. He also had 13 rushes for 24 yards and one rushing touchdown. Trubisky’s rushing touchdown for the Bills came in a 40-0 Buffalo win over the Houston Texans on October 3, 2021. It was for four yards and with three minutes and 36 seconds left in the game, and put Buffalo 40-0 at the time.

The Steelers were in need of a quarterback after it was announced that six-time Pro Bowler and future Hall of Famer Ben Roethlisberger had retired on January 27. It is expected that Trubisky will be the starting quarterback for the Steelers, and not get too much competition from backups Mason Rudolph and Dwayne Haskins. Rudolph is best known for being the boyfriend of Canadian tennis star and 2014 Wimbledon finalist Eugenie Bouchard.

The Steelers will be hoping that Trubisky is able to capture his 2018 magic, when he guided the Bears to a record of 11 wins and three losses, and as a result was selected to the Pro Bowl. That year Trubisky completed 289 passes in 434 attempts, with 24 touchdown passes and 12 interceptions. For his career, Trubisky has completed 1016 passes for 10652 yards, 64 touchdowns, and 38 interceptions.
