A total of 54 holes have now been completed at the 2025 British Open in Royal Portrush, Northern Ireland, and the leader remains three-time major champion Scottie Scheffler of Ridgewood, New Jersey. Scheffler is at -14 after shooting a third round score of four-under-par 67.
On Saturday, Scheffler did not record a bogey. He had two birdies and one eagle. Scheffler birdied the eighth and 16th holes, and eagled the par five seventh hole. In Scheffler’s eagle, he had a 209 yard tee shot, a 206 yard approach shot, and an eagle putt that went 10 feet and six inches into the cup.
Speaking of eagles, Xander Schauffele of San Diego, California, the 2024 British Open champion, had two eagles in one round for the first time in his PGA career. He eagled the seventh and 12th holes, and is alone in eighth place at -7. We also saw a hole-in-one on Saturday, as John Parry of Harrogate, England aced the 13th hole as his 192 yard tee shot went into the hole. Parry’s hole-in-one was noteworthy because the 13th hole was the third most difficult hole on the golf course in the third round.
In second place is Haotong Li of China, as he is four strokes back of Scheffler at -10. Li was the co-first round leader of the 2025 British Open on Thursday. Scheffler’s lead after round two was only one stroke.
Sunday is Scheffler’s tournament to lose, and he is looking for his first British Open title. He previously won back-to-back Masters titles in 2022 and 2024, and earlier this year won the 2025 PGA Championship in Quail Hollow.
