The golf world has waited a while to see excellence from World number one Scottie Scheffler of Ridgewood, New Jersey. Well, we saw it this past weekend at the 2026 FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis.
Scheffler posted a winning score at TPC Southwind of -17. He beat his nearest opponent Si-woo Kim of Seoul, South Korea by eight strokes. Kim was alone in second place at -9.
Over the four rounds of the first FedEx Cup event of the 2026 golf season, Scheffler had a first round score of two-under-par 68, a second round score of nine-under-par 61, a third round score of two-under-par 68, and a fourth round score of four-under-par 66. In Scheffler’s second round, he made 11 birdies.
Scheffler’s win at Memphis was tied for the most dominant PGA victory of his career. He also won by eight strokes at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson in 2025. The word I used a year ago when he won in Texas was “dominant.”
It should be no surprise that Scheffler won a FedEx event. He previously won the 2024 Tour Championship in Atlanta and the 2025 BMW Championship in Baltimore.
Before you give the win this weekend to Scheffler because he is the defending champion at the BMW Championship, just keep one thing in mind. Last year’s event was at Caves Valley Golf Club in Maryland, and this year’s event is at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis.
One significant golf story this season has been that Scheffler has had five second place finishes since winning The American Express in January. But, Scheffler is the clear number one at the moment. He has 8.932 more points than world number Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland.
