Sandown Review: White Marlin Lured By Golden Tickets
April 11, 2023
GAI Waterhouse and Adrian Bott look set to snaffle another guaranteed start in the 2023 Melbourne Cup with White Marlin after his outstanding win in the Easter Cup at Sandown Lakeside last Saturday.
White Marlin made it four wins from four starts with his ridiculously easy win in the Easter Cup where he was eased down to win by 2.25 lengths defeating the in-form Right You Are and the talented Lunar Flare.
Waterhouse and Bott are setting White Marlin for the Andrew Ramsden Stakes at Flemington on May 13 which carries a golden ticket for the winner into the Melbourne Cup.
Already they have secured a start in Australia’s most famous race with another imported galloper in former Kiwi Goldman who won The Roy Higgins.
If White Marlin can get the other ticket into the race, Waterhouse can plot a path to the Melbourne Cup for the pair knowing they are in the race and knowing they won’t have a huge weight to carry.
White Marlin will also try and secure a golden ticket into the Caulfield Cup by winning the Mornington Cup on April 22.
Overseas horses also showed their class on Saturday in Sydney with William Haggas’ galloper Dubai Honour having little trouble dealing with Australia’s best galloper Anamoe in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
As Haggas pointed out that his galloper isn’t one of the star horses in Europe which spells trouble for Anamoe’s proposed attack at Royal Ascot later in the year.
