Record breaking Kah reaches the ton
July 10, 2021
Superstar jockey Jamie Kah has made history at Caulfield becoming the first jockey to reach 100 metro wins in a season.
After a rough day at the office on Wednesday at Sandown it didn’t take long for Kah to raise the bat at Caulfield aboard the Tony and Calvin McEvoy trained Deep Speed.
In a textbook J.Kah ride, she kept her cool from a wide barrier and kept Deep Speed in a nice rhythm taking the lead. Deep Speed showed a nice little kick at the top of the straight before the fast finishing All of Brighton almost stole the show.
“Big relief. It’s been a very, very long week. I’ve had some really good people around me getting me through it. It’s a big relief today and to do it for Tony & Calvin.
“They’ve been such big supporters of my career. We’ve had lots of arguments and disagreements on the way through but they’ve supported me from day one and to get it on their horse is very special,” said Kah.
Riding the winner for a stable she has had a lot to do with back in South Australia made the win even more special with Calvin McEvoy delighted for her to break through on Deep Speed.
“She’s a talented horsewomen, she should be pretty proud of what she’s done,” said Calvin McEvoy.
Kah was almost a certainty to make the ton today with her great book of rides, with markets listing her at Winx odds to ride a winner in similar scenes to Wednesday.
But she got the job done today in front of a big crowd and still has a quality book of rides to come including favourite Malkovich in the feature John Monash Stakes.
After moving across from South Australia a couple of years ago Kah has had a big 12 months with many highlights including the Group 1 Newmarket win aboard Nature Strip, a Melbourne Cup placing on Prince of Arran and the four winners on Cox Plate day.
Smashing the record and bringing up the 100 is arguably the biggest highlight of them all and the star jockey can now look ahead and focus on a big Spring campaign.
