Phoenix Suns set franchise record for most consecutive wins with 18

The Phoenix Suns set a franchise record for most consecutive wins on Thursday. Guard Cameron Payne of Memphis, Tennessee and power forward Cameron Johnson of Moon Township, Pennsylvania each led the Suns with 19 points as Phoenix defeated the Detroit Pistons 114-103 from the Phoenix Suns Arena in Phoenix, Arizona. With the win, the Suns won their 18th consecutive game.

The Suns previously won 17 straight games from December 29, 2006 to January 28, 2007. Ironically earlier that same season of 2006-07, the Suns had a 15 game winning streak from November 20, 2006 to December 19, 2006.

In addition to having the same first name and scoring the same number of points for the Suns on Thursday, Johnson and Payne had something else in common. They both scored 19 points while coming off the bench. There is no doubt that Payne got to see more action due to the fact Phoenix’s top player Devin Booker missed the game with a hamstring injury. It is also ironic that on the same night a  Suns player from Memphis contributed to Suns franchise history that the Memphis Grizzlies broke the NBA record for the most lopsided win in league history. 

Phoenix improves to record of 19 wins and three losses. They have not lost since being beaten 110-107 to the Sacramento Kings on October 27. The Suns actually got off to a bit of a rough start. They lost three of their first four games. Their other two losses came on October 20 and October 23. On October 20, the Suns lost their opening game of the season as they were beaten 110-98 by the Denver Nuggets. Then on October 23, they were beaten 134-105 by the Portland Trail Blazers.

The longest winning streak in NBA history belongs to the Los Angeles Lakers. During the 1971-72 season they won 33 straight games.
