The 2023 United States Open begins from the Los Angeles Country Club on Thursday. In picking golfers for a major, I try to stay away from golfers who competed a week earlier due to mental fatigue. In this case, don’t pick players who were at the Canadian Open as players travelled three time zones to California from Ontario just a couple of days ago. Here are the three golfers that should be considered to win the third major of the year.
Scottie Scheffler
The 2022 Masters Champion is still looking for his first major title of 2023. However, the world number one has won twice on the PGA Tour this year. Scheffler’s titles were the Players’ Championship and Waste Management Phoenix Open. At the majors, he has finished 10th at the Masters and second at the PGA Championship.

Jon Rahm
You have to really like the World number two from Barrika, Spain. He has won a United States Open before (back in 2021), and has already won a major this year as he was victorious at the 2023 Masters. One thing to keep in mind though is Rahm’s head space. He has seemed to be bothered by the recent merger of the PGA Tour and LIV.

Cameron Smith
The Brisbane, Australia native and world number nine won a major last year as he was victorious at the 2022 British Open before he joined the LIV Tour. Many thought that LIV members might struggle at the majors. However, Brooks Koepka won the PGA Championship, in an event where Smith was a respectable ninth place. Smith needs to be praised for his determination and grit, and should be in the mix this week.
