Our Black Book: Horses You Must Follow From Randwick 26/10

The replays and sectional times have been reviewed from Saturday’s Spring Champion meeting at Randwick and has found 3 runners that look likely to be improvers getting out in trip as they hit peak fitness.

Arapaho

There was a lot to like about how the Baker stayer hit the line when 2nd up in the G3 Craven Plate. He settled at the rear and found himself all over heels from before to turn until the 200m. When he finally saw clear running he stormed home with a blistering 11.79 final furlong, which was the 2nd fastest of the race, whilst his run was partially interrupted. He finished 0.7L 4th but had charged past the placegetters 100m past the post.

He will definitely be an improver 3rd up and getting out slightly in trip. He is one to place in the black book as there are a host of possibilities of where he could lob next.

Harlem Queen

The Nathan Doyle filly took on the colts in the G1 Spring Champion and did not look out of place at all. She settled nicely in a midfield position and grinded out a nice final 600m to finish 2L 4th.

Whilst she never threatened the impressive El Castello, her run did suggest she would run out 2500m and looks a great bet in the G1 VRC Oaks at Flemington.

Townsend

A great return from a 13-month layoff. He controlled the race on a soft tempo but was brave right to the line finishing 2nd at big odds behind the classy Sounds of Heaven.

The gelding looks to have had a positive affect and he looks like one to follow later in the prep. I am always very adverse to backing them 2nd up off such a long break as they can be flat, particularly the way the Waterhouse/Bott team train their horses. I will be happy to watch next start and jump back aboard 3rd up.
