Black Book: Horses You Must Follow From Rosehill 14/3

G1 Coolmore Classic Day was a critical meeting for assessing runners to be following into the Championships. Our analyst has Black Booked a Hawkes 3yo that jumped out of the ground the final 200m and a classy Waller mare.

Federalist

The Hawkes 3yo was a real eye-catcher hitting the line strongly over 1500m in the G2 Phar Lap Stakes. He settled off midfield and never looked like reeling in impressive winner Sixties but really jumped out of the ground recording 11.39s/33.57s final 200m/600m sectionals, both the fastest of the race. He will appreciate getting out further in trip. I’d love to see him in the G2 Tulloch Stakes over 2000m at Rosehill in a fortnight and could press on to the Darby.

Lazzura

The Waller mare looks to have plenty of big wins ahead after her brave 0.3L win in the G1 Coolmore Classic despite carrying 58kg. She jumped well but went back to settle off midfield and was stuck 3-wide with cover before making her run wide on the turn. Her work from the 400-200m was sensational before battling it out with Arctic Glamour the final 200m. To win a Group 1 where she was up against it on the weight scale and sustaining a wide run suggests she is one to be following through her career.
