Opinion: Cameron Thomas making an impact since joining the Bucks
February 13, 2026
Last week the Brooklyn Nets made NBA headlines when they announced that shooting guard Cameron Thomas of Yokosuka, Japan was waived despite a productive season. It did not take Thomas long to find a new team. On Sunday, Thomas signed a new contract with the Milwaukee Bucks. According to Spotrac, the terms of the deal are one year and worth $905,366.
The Bucks are Thomas’s second team after he has played the last five seasons with the Nets. One of the most memorable games Thomas played with Brooklyn came on February 16, 2022. In a 111-106 Nets win over the New York Knicks, Brooklyn was once down 54-26 before outscoring New York 85-52. It was Thomas who led the Nets in scoring with 21 points. The 28-point comeback was tied for the largest comeback in the history of the Brooklyn Nets organization.
The Bucks must be thrilled with Thomas’s production so far. On Wednesday, in only Thomas’s second game with the Bucks, he scored 34 points in an impressive 116-108 Milwaukee win in Orlando. Thomas’s points came off the bench in 25 minutes. Milwaukee won the game as an 11 point underdog, mainly because of the reoccurring calf injury to Giannis Antetokounmpo.
So far this season, Thomas is averaging 15.9 points per game. He has a field goal percentage of .408, three point percentage of .339 and free throw percentage of .853. Thomas is averaging three assists per game, and 1.8 rebounds per game.
Milwaukee meanwhile finds themselves in an unfamiliar position. They are currently on the outside looking in of even the controversial play-in tournament.
