NFL Player Profile: Josh Allen–Buffalo Bills
An elite quarterback in the National Football League, Josh Allen of Firebaugh, California is expected to be a major contributor in sending the Buffalo Bills to a place they have never been before as a franchise in February of 2023–at the top of the National Football League, and being declared Super Bowl champion. The Bills have all the tools at the moment. Can they deliver? That is the question as time will tell.
2021 Season
In 2021, Allen guided the Bills to a record of 11 wins and six losses, and an AFC East division title. In 17 regular season games, Allen completed 409 passes in 646 attempts for 4407 yards, 36 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. He also had 122 rushes for 763 yards and six touchdowns. Allen’s 6.3 rushing yards per attempt was tied for the most in the NFL, alongside Rashaad Penny of the Seattle Seahawks.
Allen’s last game in 2021, the AFC Divisional Playoff, was one of the best games of the season. He completed 27 of 37 passes for 329 yards and four touchdowns in a 42-36 Bills overtime loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.Â
Leading up to the NFL
Allen played his college football at the University of Wyoming from 2015 to 2017 after one year at Reedley College in California. A member of the All-Mountain West team in 2016 (completed 209 passes in 373 attempts for 3203 yards, 28 touchdowns and 15 interceptions), Allen was the 2017 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl MVP. He completed 11 of 19 passes for 154 yards and three touchdowns as the University of Wyoming Cowboys clobbered the University of Central Michigan Chippewas 37-14.
In the 2018 NFL Draft, Allen was the seventh overall pick in the first round by the Buffalo Bills. He was the third quarterback selected behind Baker Mayfield of the Cleveland Browns (first overall) and Sam Darnold of the New York Jets (third overall). Ironically, both Mayfield and Darnold are both now with the Carolina Panthers.
NFL Career
In four NFL seasons, Allen has completed 1245 passes in 1999 attempts for 14114 yards, 103 touchdowns and 46 interceptions. On the ground, he has had 422 rushes for 2325 yards and 31 touchdowns. Â Allen’s 2021 statistics were a little bit down from his 2020 numbers. In the year before last, Allen won 13 of 16 regular season games, completed 396 passes in 572 attempts for 4544 yards, 37 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. In 2020, Allen was also selected to the Pro Bowl and was the runner up to Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers for the Associated Press Most Valuable Player Award.
Buffalo Bills 2022
After being one of the elite teams in 2021, the Bills are knocking on the door to a Super Bowl possibility in 2022. In an attempt to bolster their defense, the Bills signed former Super Bowl MVP Von Miller from the Los Angeles Rams, and defensive tackle DaQuan Jones from the Carolina Panthers. From an offensive perspective, Allen will continue to develop chemistry with Stefon Diggs, one of the elite wide receivers in the entire league.
