NFL Weekly Preview Week 7 2023: Key Injuries, Difference Makers & Projected Upsets
October 20, 2023
The seventh week of the 2023 National Football League season is just hours away. Here are the key injuries, difference makers and projected upsets.
NFL Injuries
San Francisco 49ers star running back Christian McCaffrey of Castle Rock, Colorado is dealing with an oblique problem he suffered in last week’s 19-17 loss to the Cleveland Browns, and at this time is considered questionable. McCaffrey leads the NFL in rushing at the moment with 553 rushing yards. If McCaffrey is unable to go Monday night against the Minnesota Vikings, expect a time share between Jordan Mason of Gallatin, Tennessee, and Elijah Mitchell of Erath, Louisiana. However keep in mind, Mitchell had only -3 yards against the Browns.
At quarterback, Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields of Kennesaw, Georgia is dealing with a dislocated thumb. Rookie quarterback Tyson Bagent of Martinsburg, West Virginia, who was undrafted and played Division II football at Shepherd University, is expected to start Sunday for the Bears against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Difference Makers
The top rated quarterback of the week is once again Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes of Tyler, Texas. Now with wide receiver Mecole Hardman back in the Kansas City offensive attack, it will be interesting to see if this transaction will help the Chiefs’s offense more. Mahomes is projected to get 270 yards passing, 22 yards rushing, and three touchdowns on Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers.
At running back, Austin Ekeler of Lincoln, Nebraska is ranked first. He is projected to get 99 total yards and a touchdown for the Chargers on Sunday against the Chiefs. At wide receiver, Tyreek Hill of the Miami Dolphins is definitely the catalyst of the Dolphins’s high power offense. He is projected to get 92 yards receiving and a touchdown on Sunday night in primetime against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Projected Upsets
The Jacksonville Jaguars are a one point underdog against the New Orleans Saints on Thursday night. Take the Jaguars if Trevor Lawrence is quarterbacking. Right now he is questionable with a knee ailment.
I also really like Miami to beat Philadelphia on Sunday night. The reason is because of the aforementioned Tyreek Hill. So far this season, he leads the NFL with 814 yards receiving and six touchdown catches.
