NFL Weekly Preview Week 2 2024: Key Injuries, Difference Makers & Projected Upsets
September 13, 2024

The second week of the 2024 National Football League season is just hours away. In week one, we saw a stunning surprise victory from the New England Patriots, the Philadelphia Eagles winning in South America, and the San Francisco 49ers winning rather easily in prime time without the game’s best player. Let’s see what week two has in store.
Key Injuries
Two notable injuries came to Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love of Bakersfield, California and Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua of Las Vegas, Nevada. Love sprained his medial collateral ligament on Friday late in the ball game against the Eagles. In fact the injury came on the game’s third final play as the Packers were marching down field. As a result, Malik Willis of College Park, Georgia came into the game, threw an incompletion and was sacked. Philadelphia hung on to win 34-29.
Nacua, meanwhile, sprained his posterior cruciate ligament and is out long term in Los Angeles. The Rams lost in overtime 26-20 to the Detroit Lions on Sunday night, and are now the underdog on Sunday in Arizona without their star second-year receiver.
Fantasy Stars
At quarterback, a lot is expected from Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes of Tyler, Texas. He is projected to get 286 yards passing, 23 yards rushing and two touchdowns for the Kansas City Chiefs against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday afternoon. At running back, the top ranked player is Breece Hall of the New York Jets. The native of Omaha, Nebraska is projected to get 78 yards rushing, 28 yards receiving and one touchdown against the Tennessee Titans. At wide receiver, the top rated player is wide receiver Tyreek Hill of Pearson, Georgia. Despite his legal troubles on Sunday, Hill is still expected to have a big game against the Buffalo Bills. He is projected to get seven catches for 100 receiving yards and one touchdown on Thursday night.
Projected Upsets
The two underdogs I like in week two are Buffalo and Tennessee. The Dolphins will be without running back Raheem Mostert (chest), and De’Von Achane is a game time decision with an ankle injury. The Bills will be able to focus on Hill more, and get the win. I like Tennessee because the New York Jets are on a short week and did not look very impressive on Monday against a banged up 49ers squad.
