Timberwolves set franchise record for most points in a game

The Minnesota Timberwolves set a franchise record for most points in a game on Sunday. The Timberwolves achieved the feat in a 150-126 win over the Chicago Bulls at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The previous Timberwolves record came in a 149-139 win over the San Antonio Spurs on March 14, 2022. The Detroit Pistons have the record for most points in a single National Basketball Association game as they beat the Denver Nuggets 186-184 on December 13, 1983 in triple overtime.

In the Timberwolves’s 24 point win over the Bulls, Minnesota shooting guard Anthony Edwards of Atlanta, Georgia, the first overall pick of the 2020 NBA Draft out of the University of Georgia, led the Timberwolves in scoring with 37 points. Edwards in fact had a double-double, as he also led Minnesota with 11 assists.

Seven Timberwolves reached double digits in scoring. In addition to Edwards, power forward D’Angelo Russell of Louisville, Kentucky had 28 points, power forward Nathan Knight of Syracuse, New York had 16 points, power forward Jaden McDaniels of Federal Way, Washington had 15 points, guard Austin Rivers of Santa Monica, California had 14 points, while center Naz Reid of Asbury Park, New Jersey, and shooting guard Bryn Forbes of Lansing, Michigan had 10 points each.

In Minnesota’s win over Chicago, the Timberwolves were actually outscored by the Bulls 34-32 after the first quarter. Minnesota then took the 71-65 lead at halftime and then outscored the Bulls 79-61 in the second half. The Timberwolves were victorious even though Karl-Anthony Towns was out with a right calf strain.

Minnesota is at the .500 mark now at 15 wins and 15 losses. They are tied for ninth in the Western Conference, as the Timberwolves have the same record as the Dallas Mavericks.
