September 24, 2022

It appears the Utah Jazz are officially in rebuilding mode. On Thursday according to James Herbert of CBS Sports, the Jazz traded forward Bojan Bogdanovic of Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina to the Detroit Pistons for center Kelly Olynyk of Toronto, Ontario and point guard Saben Lee of St. Louis, Missouri.
Bogdanovic will be joining fifth National Basketball Association franchise. He has previously been with the Brooklyn Nets, Washington Wizards, Indiana Pacers and Utah Jazz. In 2021-22, he averaged 18.1 points per game, 4.3 rebounds per game, and 1.7 assists per game. Bogdanovic also have a field goal percentage of .455, three-point percentage of .387, and a free throw percentage of .861.

This is the third major trade Utah has made in the offseason. On July 6, the Jazz traded Rudy Gobert of Saint-Quentin, France to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Patrick Beverley, Malik Beasley, Jarred Vanderbilt, Leandro Bolmaro, Walker Kessler, four first round draft picks in 2023, 2025, 2027, and 2029, and a first round pick swap in 2026. Then on September 1, the Jazz traded Donovan Mitchell of Elmsford, New York to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Lauri Markkanen, Collin Sexton, Ochai Agbaji, and the first round draft picks in 2025, 2027 and 2029. Just like the Gobert trade, there was a pick swap included in the trade. Utah has the option to swap picks with Cleveland in either 2026 or 2028.
Last season, Detroit was the second worst team in the Eastern Conference at 23 wins and 59 losses. Only Orlando was worse at 22 wins and 60 losses. Utah was fifth in the West at 49 wins and 33 losses, but now they could be in the basement in the Northwest Division.
