Caris LeVert has a memorable fourth quarter and overtime for the Nets
March 5, 2020
There is no doubt that Caris LeVert is having a phenomenal season with the Brooklyn Nets of the National Basketball Association. On Tuesday, he put together a game for the ages.
The native of Columbus, Ohio not only had a career high 51 points in a 129-120 overtime win over the Boston Celtics at the Toronto Dominion Garden in Boston, Massachusetts, LeVert also had a spectacular finish. In scoring 26 fourth quarter points and then 11 more points in the extra period, LeVert recorded the most combined points by a player in the fourth quarter and overtime (37) for a NBA game in the last two decades.
It was in the five minute extra period where LeVert was marvelous. He scored all 11 of the Nets points as he outscored Boston himself 11-2.
Brooklyn also had a great comeback in Boston. At one point, the Nets were down 71-50 before coming back to get the win.
LeVert’s final line in the evening included five assists, four rebounds, one steal, 17 of 26 in field goal attempts, 12 of 18 in free throw attempts, five of 10 in three point attempts and a +15. The one area of LeVert’s game that was a struggle was from the free throw line as he only completed 12 of 18 shots.
LeVert made the switch this season from small forward to shooting guard according to Basketball Reference. The change in position can be one of the reasons LeVert is having a fine season statistically. He is averaging 17.3 points per game, 3.8 assists per game and 3.7 rebounds per game. LeVert also has a career high three-point shooting average of .376.
Not many expected the Nets to be in playoff contention without Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. But in the rather weak Eastern Conference (after the big six), the Nets sit seventh with a record of 27 wins and 33 losses. Despite being six games below the .500 mark, Brooklyn is in fact leading the Washington Wizards by five games for a playoff spot.
