Celtics tie NBA record for most three-point shots made in a game

The Boston Celtics unveiled their championship banner from winning the 2024 NBA Finals on Sunday, and then went to work. In beating the New York Knicks 132-109 at the Toronto Dominion Garden in Boston, Massachusetts, the Celtics tied the NBA record for most three point shots made in a single game with 29 according to Gilbert McGregor of The Sporting News.
The only other time a team has made 29 three-pointers came on December 29, 2020. That is when the Milwaukee Bucks beat the Miami Heat 144-97.Â
In Boston’s 23-point win on Tuesday, on the opening night of the 2024-25 NBA season, the Celtics made their 29 three-point shots in 61 attempts. The Celtics who made the shots from downtown were forward Jayson Tatum of St. Louis, Missouri (eight), guard Derrick White of Parker, Colorado (six), small forward Jaylen Brown of Marietta, Georgia (five), point guard Jrue Holiday of Chatsworth, California (four), center Al Horford of Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic (three), power forward Sam Hauser of Green Bay, Wisconsin (two), and shooting guard Payton Pritchard of Tualatin, Oregon (one).
Six Celtics reached double digits in scoring. Tatum led the way with 37 points. White had 24 points, Brown had 23 points, Holiday had 18 points, Horford had 11 points, and Hauser had 10 points. Tatum added a double-double, as he had 10 assists.
The Celtics’s win over the Knicks was one of two games on the NBA’s opening night. The other saw the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 110-103. It is interesting the two losers on Tuesday were the Knicks and Timberwolves. These were the two teams involved in the biggest trade in the offseason.
