The Chicago Bulls will lose point guard Lonzo Ball of Anaheim, California for the remainder of the 2021-22 National Basketball Association season because of a knee injury according to Ryan Young of Yahoo! Sports. Young has not played for the Bulls since January 14, when the Bulls were clobbered 138-96 by the Golden State Warriors.
in 35 games with the Bulls in 2021-22, Ball averaged 13 points, 5.4 rebounds and 5.1 assists. He had a field goal percentage of .423, three-point percentage of .423, and a free throw percentage of .750.
Ball’s best game this season came on November 15 in a 121-103 Chicago Bulls win over the struggling and underachieving Los Angeles Lakers. He had 27 points, eight assists and seven rebounds.
Ball was in his first season with the Bulls. He previously played two seasons each with the Lakers and New Orleans Pelicans. Ball was in fact the second overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft behind Markelle Fultz of the Philadelphia 76ers. He was then moved to the Pelicans in 2019 in the blockbuster trade that saw Anthony Davis move to the Lakers.
The Bulls meanwhile are playoff bound thanks to the remarkable play by DeMar DeRozan of Compton, California. DeRozan has even been put in the conversation of NBA MVP this year with his career-high 28 points per game. On March 31, DeRozan scored a season-high 50 points in a 135-130 overtime win over the Los Angeles Clippers.
The Bulls are currently at 45 wins and 35 losses. They are playoff bound as they are in sixth place in the Eastern Conference. They will either play the Boston Celtics, Philadelphia 76ers or Milwaukee Bucks in the first round.
