According to the Associated Press on Thursday, Kansas City Chiefs tackle Mitchell Schwartz of Pacific Palisades, California retired at the age of 33. Schwartz played nine National Football League seasons at right tackle. He was with the Cleveland Browns from 2012 to 2015, and then the Chiefs from 2016 to 2020. Schwartz did not play the 2021 NFL season because of a back injury.

Schwartz’s greatest individual accomplishment was being named a First-Team All-Pro with the Chiefs in 2018. Schwartz was honoured alongside fellow offensive linemen David Bakhtiari of San Manteo, California (Green Bay Packers left tackle), Quenton Nelson of Holmdel, New Jersey (Indianapolis Colts left guard), Jason Kelce of Greenville, North Carolina (Philadelphia Eagles center), and Zack Martin of Indianapolis, Indiana (Dallas Cowboys right guard). It should be noted that Jason Kelce is the brother of Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce.

In addition to being the Associated Press First-Team All-Pro with the Chiefs in 2018, Schwartz was an Associated Press Second-Team All-Pro with the Chiefs in 2016, 2017, and 2019. Even though he was honoured by the Associated Press ion four occasions, remarkably he was never selected to the Pro Bowl.

Schwartz was part of the Kansas City Chiefs team that won the Super Bowl in 2020. A month before the coronavirus outbreak, the Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers 31-20.

Schwartz was initially the Browns’s second round pick, 37th overall in the 2012 NFL Draft. He played his college football at the University of California. Schwartz signed a five year contract worth $33 million with the Chiefs on March 9, 2016. That same year he was inducted into the Southern California Jewish Sports Hall of Fame.
