Miami Heat sign shooting guard Alec Burks

According to spotrac.com on Wednesday, the Miami Heat signed Alec Burks of Grandview, Missouri to a one-year contract worth $3.3 million. The Heat are the eighth franchise Burks has played for following eight seasons with the Utah Jazz from 2011 to 2018, one season with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Sacramento Kings in 2018 to 2019, one season with the Golden State Warriors and Philadelphia 76ers from 2019 to 2020, three seasons with the New York Knicks from 2020 to 2022, and again in 2023 to 2024, and two seasons with the Detroit Pistons from 2022 to 2024.
In 66 games with the Pistons and Knicks, Burks averaged 10.4 points per game, 2.3 rebounds per game, and 1.3 assists per game. He had a field goal percentage of .369, three point percentage of .376, and a free throw percentage of .868.
At 33 years of age, Burks becomes the third oldest player on the Heat. The only two older players are power forwards Kevin Love of Santa Monica, California. who is 36 years old, and Jimmy Butler of Houston, Texas, who is 35 years old. Interestingly, Love and Burks both once played for the Cavaliers, and Butler and Burks both played for the 76ers.
Burks was a former first round pick. He was selected in the first round, 12th overall, by the Jazz in 2011.
This past season the Heat had a regular season record of 46 wins and 36 losses for a winning percentage of .561. Miami then beat the Chicago Bulls 112-91 for the eighth NBA playoff spot. Then in the Eastern Conference first round playoff series, the Heat lost in five games to the Celtics, the eventual NBA Finals champions.
