Houston Texans running back Nick Chubb of Cedartown, Georgia retired at the age of 30 on Friday according to B. Keith Crear III of Roundtable Sports. He played eight National Football League seasons with the Cleveland Browns and Texans.
Chubb’s retirement has come in the same offseason that the Texans are committing to David Montgomery at the running back position. Montgomery of Cincinnati, Ohio was traded from the Lions to the Texans on March 11 for offensive lineman Juice Scruggs of Ashtabula, Ohio, a fourth round draft pick in the 2026 NFL Draft and a seventh round draft pick in the 2027 NFL Draft. Now, Woody Marks of Atlanta, Georgia will be the Texans backup running back.
Chubb played exactly 100 games in the NFL with the Browns (2018 to 2024) and Texans (2025) over the last eight seasons, and was selected to the Pro Bowl in half of his professional seasons (2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022). All four times Chubb went to the Pro Bowl he represented the Browns.
In the four seasons with the Browns that Chubb was selected to the Pro Bowl, he eclipsed 1000 yards in rushing, including 1525 rushing yards in 2022. During the 2020 and 2022 NFL seasons, he had a career high 12 rushing touchdowns. Chubb’s 6843 rushing yards with the Browns are the third most rushing yards in Browns franchise history. He is only behind Jim Brown of St. Simons, Georgia (12312 rushing yards from 1957 to 1965) and Leroy Kelly of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (7274 rushing yards from 1964 to 1973).
From 2018 to 2025, Chubb had 1462 rushes for 7349 rushing yards with 54 rushing touchdowns. He also had 141 catches for 1109 receiving yards and five touchdown catches.
This past season with the Texans, Chubb had 102 rushes for 506 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns. He also had 13 catches for 67 receiving yards.
