There was a trade made in the National Football League on Sunday according to TSN. The New Orleans Saints have traded linebacker Deion Jones of New Orleans, Louisiana to the San Francisco 49ers for running back Zamir White of Laurinburg, North Carolina.
It is interesting that Jones is being traded to the 49ers without ever playing a single game with the Saints, the franchise based in his birthplace of New Orleans. Jones had initially signed a one-year contract worth $1.3 million with the Saints on August 8.
The 49ers will be Jones’s fifth National Football League team. He previously played six seasons with the Atlanta Falcons from 2016 to 2021, one season with the Cleveland Browns in 2022, one season with the Carolina Panthers in 2023, and two seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2024 and 2025.
This past season with the Buccaneers, Jones had 29 combined tackles (16 solo tackles and 13 assisted tackles). Jones’s most notable NFL season came with the Falcons in 2017 when he was selected to the Pro Bowl. In 16 games, Jones had 138 combined tackles (91 solo tackles and 457 assisted tackles), 10 tackles for a loss, three interceptions for 42 yards, 10 pass deflections, and one sack.
Jones also had a notable rookie season with the Falcons. In 2016, he finished third in Defensive Rookie of the Year voting, and led the NFL in pick sixes (two) and yards from interceptions (165). The first pick six was for 90 yards and came in a 45-32 Falcons win over the New Orleans Saints on September 26, 2016, and the second pick six was for 33 yards and came in a 42-14 Falcons win over the Los Angeles Rams on December 11, 2016.
White played the last four seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders. In 2025, he had 12 rushes for 32 rushing yards and four catches for 24 receiving yards. Twice White has eclipsed 100 yards rushing in a game. He had 145 rushing yards on Christmas Day, 2023 in a 20-14 Raiders win over the Kansas City Chiefs, and 112 rushing yards on January 7, 2024 in a 27-14 Raiders win over the Denver Broncos.
Like Jones, White never played for the team he first went to in the offseason. White had signed a one-year contract worth $1.215 million with the 49ers on August 12.
