The Seattle Mariners are not in the Major League Baseball postseason yet, but they are close. They have taken over top spot in the American League West by half a game over the Houston Astros and lead the Texas Rangers by four and a half games.
The Mariners are the hottest team in baseball at the moment. They are winners of 10 straight games, which is the longest active winning streak.
Seattle is undefeated since September 6. In that time, the Mariners beat the Atlanta Braves by scores of 10-2 and 18-2, the St. Louis Cardinals by scores of 4-2, 5-3, and 4-2, the Los Angeles Angels by scores of 7-6, 2-1, 5-3, and 11-2, and the Kansas City Royals by a score of 12-5. In the last 10 games, the Mariners have outscored their opponents 78-28.
What we saw on Tuesday was offensive excellence from catcher Cal Raleigh of Cullowhee, North Carolina and designated hitter Dominic Canzone of Cleveland, Ohio. We have documented Raleigh’s home run swing over the last month. In late August, he set the MLB record for most home runs in a season by a primary catcher with 49. Now, after Tuesday, Raleigh has 56 home runs. He had two more dingers on Tuesday and tied Ken Griffey Jr. for the most home runs by a Mariners player in a single season.
As mentioned, we saw greatness from Canzone too. He was sensational Tuesday, as the third-year Mariner hit three home runs, and had four runs scored, five hits, four runs batted in, and had 14 total bases. Canzone’s home runs were 388 feet, 419 feet and 447 feet.
