National Basketball Association greatness continued over the weekend as we saw two more 50-point games. On Friday, LeBron James scored 50 points as the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Washington Wizards 122-109. On Sunday, Kevin Durant scored 53 points as the Brooklyn Nets beat the New York Knicks 110-107.

This was the second time this season that James and Durant reached the half-century mark in total points in a game. James had 56 points in a 124-116 Lakers win over the Golden State Warriors on March 5. Meanwhile, Durant had 51 points for the Nets in a 116-104 win over the Detroit Pistons on December 12.

With the 50-point game on Friday, James becomes the oldest player in NBA history to record multiple 50-point games in the same season. At age 37, James set the record previously held by Bernard King of Brooklyn, New York, who had multiple 50-point games with the Washington Bullets at age 34. King had 52 points in a 161-133 Bullets win over the Denver Nuggets on December 29, 1990, and had 50 points in a 104-93 Bullets loss to the Utah Jazz on March 6, 1991.

There has been only one other player in the NBA who has has multiple 50-point games in 2021-22. That is Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics.

In the Lakers win over the Wizards, James had 50 points, seven rebounds and six assists. On Sunday, he made more NBA history by recording his 10 000th assist in a 140-111 Lakers loss to the Phoenix Suns. James is now the only player in NBA history to record 30 000 points, 10 000 rebounds, and 10 000 assists.

In the Nets win over the Knicks, Durant had 53 points, nine assists and six rebounds. With the win, the Nets improved to a record of 35 wins and 33 losses, and are eighth in the Eastern Conference.
