Kevin Durant scores most points in one game this season with 51
December 14, 2021
Brooklyn Nets forward Kevin Durant of Washington, D.C. scored the most points by a player in a game during the 2021-22 regular season on Sunday. He scored 51 points in a 116-104 win over the Detroit Pistons from the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan.
Durant made 16 of 31 field goals, five of 10 three-point shots, and 14 of 15 free throws. He added nine assists, seven defensive rebounds, two blocks, one steal and was a +25. Despite being a +25 and scoring over the half-century mark in total points, Durant was not the Nets’ leader in +/- on Sunday. That belonged to Cameron Thomas, who was a +27 off the bench.
According to Ben Morse of CNN, the only other player to have 50 points in a game this season was Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors. On November 8, Curry became the oldest player in NBA history to record 50 points and 10 assists in a single game as the Warriors defeated the Atlanta Hawks 127-113. ‘
One must realize that Durant’s 50 points was not a career-high. Durant had 54 points for the Oklahoma City Thunder in a 127-121 win over the Golden State Warriors on January 17, 2014. For the 2016-17 season, Durant left the Thunder for the Warriors and won back-to-back NBA Finals in 2017 and 2018.
So far in 2021-22, Durant is averaging 29.4 points per game, which leads the NBA. Durant also leads the NBA with 735 total points and 266 field goals made.
The Nets meanwhile are currently the best team in the East. They have a record of 19 wins and eight losses, and are 1.5 games up on the Milwaukee Bucks.
