Korda sisters have hot start to the 2021 LPGA season

The 2021 LPGA season is only two tournaments old, and already we have seen an impressive trend. In January, Jessica Korda of Bradenton, Florida was victorious at the Diamond Resorts Tournament of Champions at Lake Buena Vista, Florida. Then on Sunday, in the LPGA’s only event for the month of February, Jessica’s sister Nelly Korda, also of Bradenton, won at the Gainbridge Championship from the Lake Nona Golf and Country Club in Orlando, Florida.

For Nelly Korda, it was her fourth career title, and for Jessica Korda, it was her sixth career title. In the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings, Nelly Korda is now third in the world (only behind world number one Jin Young Ko of South Korea and world number two Sei Young Kim of South Korea), while Jessica Korda is 18th. Even though the Korda sisters have won a combined 10 times on the LPGA Tour, they are still looking for their first major title.

The Korda sisters are also the third set of sisters to both win on the LPGA Tour all-time according to Golf Digest. The others are Annika Sorenstam of Bro, Sweden, and Charlotta Sorenstam of Stockholm, Sweden; and Ariya and Moriya Jutanugarn of Bangkok, Thailand.

Annika Sorenstam has won 72 LPGA events, and 10 majors. Charlotta Sorenstam meanwhile won the 2000 Standard Register PING event in Phoenix, Arizona.

Ariya Jutanugarn has won 10 LPGA events including two majors–the 2016 Women’s British Open, and the 2018 U.S. Women’s Open. Moriya Jutanugarn won the 2018 Hugel-JTBC LA Open in Los Angeles, California.

Ironically, Annika Sorenstam was competing at the 2021 Gainbridge Championship for her first LPGA event since 2008. Sorenstam made the cut, and finished in 74th place at +13.
