Giannis Antetokounmpo has a career-high 55 points

Tuesday was a career night for Milwaukee Bucks power forward Giannis Antetokounmpo of Athens, Greece. The 7’0″, 240 pound Greek Freak had 55 points in a single game, the most number of points he has ever had in a single contest as the Bucks defeated the Washington Wizards 123-113 at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Antetokounmpo had a double-double as he also had 10 rebounds. He also added seven assists and two steals. Antetokounmpo made 20 of 33 field goal attempts and 15 of 16 free throws. He did have three free throw attempts, but did not make a shot from the charity stripe.

This is the fifth time in Antetokounmpo’s career that he has had a 50-point game. In the regular season, he previously had 50 points in a 122-118 Bucks win over the Utah Jazz on November 25, 2019, 50 points in a 128-119 win over the Indiana Pacers on February 15, 2022, and 52 points in a 130-125 Bucks loss to the Philadelphia 76ers on March 17, 2019. In the NBA playoffs, Antetokounmpo also had 50 points during Game Six of the 2021 NBA Finals, the night the Bucks won the Larry O’Brien Trophy by beating the Phoenix Suns 105-98.

Anteotokounmpo has the fifth most points in a game this season. Donovan Mitchell of the Cleveland Cavaliers had 71 points in a 145-134 Cleveland win over the Chicago Bulls on January 2, Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks had 60 points in a 126-121 Dallas win over the New York Knicks on December 27, Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers had 59 points in a 105-98 Philadelphia win over the Utah Jazz on November 13, and Devin Booker of the Phoenix Suns had 58 points in a 118-114 Phoenix win over the New Orleans Pelicans on  December 17. 

With the win on Tuesday, the Bucks improve to a record of 24 wins and 13 losses. They are in third place in the Eastern Conference–one and a half games back of the Boston Celtics, which are at 26 wins and 12 losses, and one game back of the surging Brooklyn Nets, at 25 wins and 12 losses.
