May 20, 2021
The 2021 PGA Championship will begin Thursday from Kiawah Island in South Carolina. The length of the course is significant as it is 7876 yards. Let us take a look at the top five threesomes for the second major of the 2021 calendar year in men’s golf.
5) Lee Westwood/Xander Schauffele/Viktor Hovland–This trio does not have a major title to their name, and none have won on the PGA Tour in 2021, but all three are ranked in the top 25 in the world. Schauffele is fourth, Hovland is 11th, and Westwood is 21st. Schauffele has three top-three finishes in 2021, while Hovland has four top-three finishes, and Westwood finished second twice.
4) Shane Lowry/Sergio Garcia/Dustin Johnson–These three are all major champions. Lowry won the 2019 British Open, Garcia won the 2017 Masters, and Johnson won the 2016 United States Open, and 2020 Masters. However, the one major title this group has not won is the PGA Championship.
3) Patrick Reed/Jon Rahm/Tommy Fleetwood–Like the previous two groups, Reed, Rahm, and Fleetwood are from three different countries. Reed is American, Rahm is Spanish, and Fleetwood is English. (Schauffele and Johnson are American, Westwood is English, Hovland is Norwegian, Lowry is Irish, and Garcia is Spanish). Rahm is third in the world, Reed is eighth in the world, and winner of the 2018 Masters, and Fleetwood has three top-four finishes at a major over the last five years.

McIlroy of Northern Ireland won the 2012 and 2014 PGA Championship, as well as the 2011 U.S. Open, and 2014 British Open. Koepka of West Palm Beach, Florida, won the 2017 and 2018 U.S. Open and the 2018 and 2019 PGA Championship. In an interesting note, the last time the PGA Championship took place at Kiawah Island in 2012, McIlroy won by eight strokes.
1)Hideki Matsuyama/Collin Morikawa/Bryson DeChambeau–This group has the reigning major champions for the three majors based in the United States. Matsuyama of Japan won the Masters in Augusta last month, Morikawa of Los Angeles is the defending PGA Championship winner, while DeChambeau of Modesto, California, is the defending United States Open champion.
