Bradley Beal sets NBA record for most consecutive games of 25+ points to start a season

Bradley Beal of the Washington Wizards has had a great start to the 2020-21 regular season, even though the Wizards have struggled mightily on the court, and cannot find a way to consistently win games. On Wednesday, Beal made NBA history in a rare Washington win.

In Washington’s 103-100 win over the Miami Heat, Beal of St. Louis, Missouri, scored a game-high 32 points. He now has a minimum of 25 points in 17 straight games to start the 2020-21 season. He broke the record for the most consecutive games with 25+ points to start the year, as the previous record belonged to Michael Jordan of the Chicago Bulls in the 1988-89 season with 16 games, according to Neil Dalal of The Sports Daily.

It should be noted that Beal did miss one Wizards’s game during the streak. He was not in the Wizards lineup on January 9, in a 128-124 loss to the Heat.

In the 17 games, Beal has reached a minimum of 30 points in 12 of the contests. He also scored 60 points in a 141-136 Wizards loss to the Philadelphia 76ers on January 6.

Beal is one of two players to register 60+ points in a game this season. The other is Stephen Curry, who had 62 points in a 137-122 Golden State Warriors win over the Portland Trail Blazers on January 3. The fact that Beal scored 60 points in a Wizards loss should come as no surprise, as the Wizards remarkably struggle mightily in games where he scores 40 or more points. 

In the record-winning game for the Wizards on Wednesday, Beal made 11 of his 23 field goal attempts, four of his 11 three-point attempts, six of his eight free throws, eight rebounds, and four assists. The Wizards continue to struggle to get into the win column. They have only won five of their first 18 games this year.
