The 9-10 games of the NBA Play-In Tournament took place on Thursday with the road teams of the Miami Heat and Dallas Mavericks being victorious. The Heat defeated the Chicago Bulls 109-90, and the Mavericks defeated the Sacramento Kings 120-106.
After the Kings loss, Sacramento decided to fired general manager Monte McNair of Oak Park, California. McNair had been the Kings general manager since 2020. According to the Times Colonist, the new Kings general manager is Scott Perry of Detroit, Michigan. Perry has past experience being the general manager of the Seattle SuperSonics and New York Knicks.
The reason for the general managerial change was related to the fact the Kings did not meet expectations this past season. McNair was responsible for the Kings firing Mike Brown as head coach and Sacramento trading point guard De’Aaron Fox to the San Antonio Spurs.
On Wednesday, the Kings were in complete disarray. The Mavericks dominated the Kings 44-19 in the second quarter to eliminate Sacramento. Five Mavericks players reached double digits in scoring. Power forward Anthony Davis of Chicago, Illinois led the way with 27 points. Small forward Klay Thompson of Los Angeles, California had 23 points, point guard Brandon Williams of Los Angeles and power forward P.J. Washington of Louisville, Kentucky had 17 points each, and guard Dante Exum of Melbourne, Australia had 11 points.
The Bulls were in equal disarray. They were down 71-47 at the half. It was a huge game for Heat shooting guard Tyler Herro of Milwaukee, Wisconsin as he had 34 points, including making 13 of 19 field goals.
