Jon Rahm wins 2022 Mexico Championship

Jon Rahm of Barrika, Spain has his first PGA title of 2022. On Sunday, Rahm posted a score of -17 to beat Americans Brandon Wu, Tony Finau and Kurt Kitayama by a stroke at the 2022 Mexico Open.

Rahm had scores of seven-under-par 64 in round one, five-under-par 66 in round two, three-under-par 68 in round three, and two-under-par 69 in round four. Other golfers in contention during the tournament were Americans Davis Riley (-15), Aaron Wise (-14), David Lipsky (-14), Alex Smalley (-14), and Cameron Champ (-14).

Rahm’s most impressive shot in the tournament was an eagle on the par-four seventh. There, he recorded a two on a par four.

This was Rahm’s first PGA Tour win since winning the 2021 United States Open. That was the only major title of his career.

With the win, Rahm won his seventh title on the PGA Tour. In addition to the 2021 US Open and 2022 Mexico Championship, he previously won the 2017 Farmers Insurance Open in San Diego, the 2018 CareerBuilder Challenge in Palm Springs, California, the 2019 Zurich Classic of New Orleans, the 2020 Memorial Tournament, and the 2020 BMW Championships in Chicago.

Two of Rahm’s titles have come in playoffs as he beat Andrew Landry four years ago in Palm Springs and then Dustin Johnson at the 2020 BMW Championship. When Rahm won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans in 2019, it was a team event. Rahm joined forces with Ryan Palmer. The 2022 Zurich Classic of New Orleans champions were Americans Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele.

Rahm remains at number two in the world. Masters champion Scottie Scheffler continues to be world number one.
