Jayden Short will remain at Richmond in 2027 after the Tigers and Collingwood decided not to proceed with a Deadline Day trade, AFL.com.au’s Josh Gabelich reported following talks at Docklands.
ABC News marked the update as a key event at about 3:04pm AEDT on Wednesday, quoting Gabelich’s report that the clubs met at Marvel Stadium to discuss Short and then ruled out a deal. Zero Hanger’s live blog carried the same AFL Media line minutes earlier, saying the dual-premiership defender would stay at Punt Road.
Short had been linked to Collingwood through the trade period while contracted at Richmond. AFL.com.au’s Trade Talk LIVE coverage on Deadline Day led with the Magpies move being called off alongside other afternoon developments.

What it means for both clubs
Collingwood had been weighing a list-spot squeeze and had shown limited appetite to put early picks on the table for Short, according to earlier Deadline Day reporting. With the door closed, Richmond keeps a premiership defender through 2027 and the Magpies turn back to other list options before the 7:30pm AEDT deadline.
Richmond already completed a major draft move earlier on Wednesday, landing Port Adelaide’s pick No.5 to sit alongside its own pick No.2 for November’s national draft.

Deadline Day still open
Several player deals remained live into the afternoon, including Nick Murray, Keidean Coleman, Jack Viney, Trent Rivers, Luke Pedlar, Josh Goater and Will McLachlan. Clubs have until 7:30pm AEDT to lodge paperwork.
