Jarryd Hayne Under Investigation Over Alleged Sexual Assault
November 15, 2018
Rugby league star Jarryd Hayne is being investigated by police after a woman made allegations of sexual assault against him.
The New South Wales Sex Crimes Squad have taken charge of an investigation into an alleged incident on 30 September, the NRL Grand Final night.
The woman had been in touch with Hayne on social media. It is alleged that Hayne travelled to a house in the Hunter region to meet her and the pair had sex. The woman claims that she suffered injuries during the encounter and has photographic evidence to support the claims.
It is understood a complaint was first made to the NRL Integrity Unit, which notified the NSW Police Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad. The woman then filed a report directly to detectives on Monday this week.
A statement from NSW Police this afternoon said: “Police are investigating following reports a woman was sexually assaulted by a 30-year-old man in late September. The investigation is being led by detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad. No further information is available at this time.”
The NRL integrity unit is understood to have interviewed the woman. An NRL spokesperson declined to comment other than to state that it is a matter for the police.
Hayne is currently without an NRL club after finishing the season for Parramatta. The Eels had been keen to offer him a new one-year deal but have only $200,000 left in their salary cap, well short of Hayne’s apparent $700,000 asking price. The club had been attempting to offload players in order to free up the funds required to table something resembling the cross-code star’s market value. The St. George Illawarra Dragons are believed to be the front-runners to sign Hayne
Jarryd Hayne’s agent, Wayne Beavis, told 9News he was unaware of the allegations or the police investigation.

Hayne is currently defending a civil case in the United States brought by a woman claiming she was raped by Hayne, who was playing for the San Francisco 49ers. Hayne has vehemently denied those claims.
No charges have been laid and The Sporting Base does not suggest that Hayne is guilty of any offence, only that police are investigating the allegations.
