Ja Morant has back-to-back magical games for the Grizzlies
March 2, 2022

Heading into the Memphis Grizzlies’ game against the Chicago Bulls on Saturday night, Mike Miller of Mitchell, South Dakota had the Grizzlies franchise record for most points in a game with 45 in a 118-115 Memphis loss to the Golden State Warriors on February 21, 2007. However since the weekend, Grizzlies’ All-Star point guard Ja Morant has broken the Grizzlies’ franchise record for most points in one game not just once, but twice.
Morant initially broke Miller’s record on Saturday when he recorded 46 points in a 116-110 Memphis win over the Chicago Bulls. However, that record was short-lived. That is because on Monday night, Morant had 52 points in a 118-105 Grizzles win over the San Antonio Spurs.
In the process, Morant became the ninth player this season to score a minimum of 50 points in a game. He is joined by Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks (56 points), Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks (51 points), Kevin Durant of the Brooklyn Nets (51 points), Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics (51 points), Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks (50 points), Jaylen Brown of the Boston Celtics (50 points), Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers (50 points), and Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors (50 points).

However one must realize that Morant has scored the most points in a game this season in leading his team to victory. When Young scored 56 points, Atlanta in fact lost 136-131 to the Portland Trail Blazers on January 3.
In Morant’s game against the Bulls, he made 15 of 28 field goals, three of four three-point attempts, 13 of 15 free throws, and had four rebounds and three assists. In Morant’s game against the Spurs, he made 22 of 30 field goals, all four of his three-point attempts, four of seven free throws, and had seven rebounds and two assists. On the season, Morant is averaging 27.6 points per game, 6.6 assists per game, and 5.9 rebounds per game. He has a field goal percentage of .498, a three-point percentage of .344, and a free-throw percentage of .754.
The Grizzlies are now third in the Western Conference with a record of 43 wins and 20 losses. They only trail the Phoenix Suns and Golden State Warriors.
