Horse To Follow & Horse To Sack From Flemington – Saturday 16th January
January 18, 2021
We saw some high-quality horses grace the turf on Magic Millions day for 2021 and once again we are back with horses you should “Follow & Sack” from Saturday’s Flemington meeting!
Horse To Follow:
Skyman
- Race 6
- Distance: 1400m
- Class: BM84
This former UK horse made his mark instantly when scoring back-to-back wins comfortably at the start of the spring carnival. His next 2 starts he disappointed however, his return run on Saturday makes me believe he is in for a good preparation.
In his 12 runs previous to Saturday’s run he hadn’t run under a mile, so I thought his effort to finish 4th over 1400m 1st up was quite a good effort. Adding to that, the race looked to be a sit and sprint affair and the numbers back that up as they went slower than average BM standard to the 600m.
He was hooked widest and ran equally the best L600m sectional of the race with Kazio (34.12). He also ran the 2nd fastest L400,200m behind the above-mentioned runner.
When To Bet
If he can find a similar BM84 race over a mile at Flemington he will be a very good chance to knock them off. If not, wait for him to be cherry ripe over 2000m 3rd up. Would fill me with more confidence if the race was at Flemington and the track was fair due to him being a tarty beginner thus far and having to be ridden near the tail of the field.

Horse To Sack:
Prezado
- Race 7
- Distance: 1000m
- Class: Listed
He was known as a bit of a “Nonny” (Non-Winner) before he found his love affair with the straight track at Flemington.
Unfortunately, winning 3 races in a row in spring did him no favours over the summer months as now he is weighted out of the only races, he is a winning threat.
He got ridden an absolute peach from Jamie Kah and wasn’t able to finish off the race which leaves me a bit sour in the mouth with him going forward.
Not only is he a one trick pony but he now has to face some very sharp sprinters in Listed & Group 3 company just to get in with a reasonable weight.
Hard to see him winning this preparation and in preparations to come as he has surpassed his level.
