Meanwhile, Viktor Hovland of Norway, the 2023 FedEx Cup champion finished in a tie for second place with Schauffele at -15, and the 2022 and 2024 Masters champion Scottie Scheffler of Ridgewood, New Jersey finished three strokes back all alone in fourth place at -14.
This was Matsuyama’s 10th career victory on the PGA Tour, and second victory in 2024. The first win was at the Genesis Invitational at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California. Interestingly, in both tournaments Matsuyama posted a winning score of -17. It has since been announced that the Riviera Country Club will be the host venue for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles in men’s and women’s golf.
This is the first of three events of the FedEx playoffs. The FedEx Cup Playoffs continues this weekend in Denver, Colorado, and concludes Labour Day weekend in Atlanta.
