Hawks small forward Saddiq Bey out for season with torn ACL

According to Arthur Hill of Hoops Rumors on Monday, Atlanta Hawks small forward Saddiq Bey of Charlotte, North Carolina is out for the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament. Bey suffered the injury early in the fourth quarter on Monday in the Hawks’s 116-103 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans. He slid on the floor with pain after getting fouled.
This is the second significant injury to the Hawks. At the end of February, Hawks point guard Trey Young had hand surgery, and the Hawks are hopeful he will be back my the end of March.
Bey was considered the top player dealt at the 2023 National Basketball Association trade deadline. He was traded from Detroit to Atlanta in a four-way trade that also involved Golden State and Portland. In 2023-24, Bey is averaging 13.7 points per game, 6.5 rebounds per game, and 1.5 assists per game. He has a field goal percentage of .416, three-point percentage of .316, and a free throw percentage of .837.
In addition to the Hawks losing Bey, the Indiana Pacers have lost small forward Bennedict Mathurin of Montreal, Quebec, Canada with a shoulder injury according to Tony East of Sports Illustrated. Mathurin tore a labrum in his shoulder during the Pacers’s 137-120 win over the Dallas Mavericks a week ago, and will be having surgery this week in Los Angeles. In 59 games this season, Mathurin was averaging 14.5 points per game, four rebounds per game and two assists per game. He had a field goal percentage of .446, three-point percentage of .374, and a free throw percentage of .821.
The Pacers are seventh in the Eastern Conference at 36 wins and 29 losses. The Hawks are 10th in the East at 29 wins and 35 losses. The Hawks’s lead for the final spot in the NBA Play-In Tournament is three and a half games over the Brooklyn Nets.
