Max Homa wins 2022 Wells Fargo Championship
May 10, 2022

Max Homa of Burbank, California has won the 2022 Wells Fargo Championship. The tournament normally takes place at the Quail Hollow Golf Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. However, this year Quail Hollow Golf Club is hosting the 2022 Presidents Cup, so the tournament was moved to Avenel Farm in Potomac, Maryland.
Homa had a four-round score of -8. He beat Americans Cameron Young and Keegan Bradley, along with England’s Matt Fitzpatrick by two strokes. Of the three golfers two strokes back, Bradley was a major champion, as he won the 2011 PGA Championship.
In his 72 holes of golf, Homa shot rounds of three-under-par 67 in round one, four-under-par 66 in round two, one-over-par 71 in round three, and two-under-par 68 in round four. The most memorable hole for Homa on the weekend was the par-five 10th hole in round two on Friday. That is where Homa notched an eagle.

Homa won the Wells Fargo Championship on Sunday despite having to post a double bogey in round one on Thursday. There he posted a score of six on a par four 16th hole, and went from -5 to -3 for his round.
After 36 holes on Friday, things were looking great for Australia’s own Jason Day. He was the leader at the midway point of the Wells Fargo Championship after shooting -10 after two rounds. But Day had a disastrous third round, where he shot a nine-over-par and moved from -10 to -1.
This was Homa’s fourth PGA title of his career. He previously won the 2019 Wells Fargo Championship, the 2021 Genesis Invitational in a playoff over Tony Finau, and the 2021 Fortinet Championship.
