Chevron Championship officially moves to Texas

Chevron Championship officially moves to Texas Club at Carlton Woods (Twitter)

The first major of the season in women’s golf officially has a new home according to Keely Levins of Golf Digest on Tuesday. Starting in 2023, the Chevron Championship will take place at the Club at Carlton Woods in Woodlands, Texas, just outside of Houston.

The move is not a big surprise. Chevron took over as the primary sponsor of the tournament in 2022 from All Nippon Airways (ANA). Ever since the sponsorship change, there were rumours the event would change locations and be closer to one of its office towers in Houston. It is a little bit of a surprise that they are leaving the state of California, as Chevron’s headquarters are in San Francisco.

Just like the Masters, which is held annually in Augusta, Georgia, the first major of the year in women’s golf has been held annually at the same location since it first was a major in 1983. Located at the Mission Hills Country Club, the tournament as a major was first known as the Nabisco Dinah Shore. Kraft took over title sponsorship in 2002, before ANA in 2015.

The last ANA Inspiration winner was Jennifer Kupcho of the United States. In April, Kupcho posted a score of -14 to beat Jessica Korda of the United States by two strokes.

There will be three more major events in women’s golf before the 2023 Chevron Championship. The Women’s PGA Championship takes place later this month in Washington. That will be followed by the Evian Championship in France next month and the Women’s British Open in Muirfield, Scotland, in August.
