February 17, 2022
Giannis Antetokounmpo recorded 50 points in a game for the third time in his NBA career on Tuesday. He reached the half century mark in points with a 128-119 Milwaukee Bucks win over the Indiana Pacers.
Antetokounmpo previously had a career-high 52 points in a 130-125 Milwaukee loss to the Philadelphia 76ers on March 17, 2019, 50 points in a 122-118 Bucks win over the Utah Jazz on March 25, 2019, and 50 points in a 105-98 win over the Phoenix Suns on July 20, 2021. The 50 points against the Suns came in game six of the 2021 NBA Finals, the game that clinched Milwaukee the 2021 NBA Finals, and the 2021 Larry O’Brien Trophy.
In Tuesday’s win over Indiana, Antetokounmpo had 50 points in only 21 shot attempts. That is the fourth fewest shot attempts to reach 50 points in NBA history. The only players who have had fewer shot attempts are Adrian Dantley of the Utah Jazz (17 attempts), Willie Burton of the Philadelphia 76ers (19 attempts), and Damian Lillard of the Portland Trail Blazers (20 attempts).
On Tuesday, Antetokounmpo made 17 of 21 field goal attempts, two of three three-point attempts, and 14 of 18 free throws. He also had 14 rebounds and four assists.
On the season, Antetokounmpo is averaging 29.4 points per game, which leads the NBA. He is also averaging 11.3 rebounds per game, six assists per game, a field goal percentage of .547, a three-point percentage of .304, and a free throw percentage of .720.
With the win, the Bucks improve to a record of 36 wins and 23 losses. That is the third best record in the Eastern Conference. Only the Miami Heat and Chicago Bulls are better at 37 wins and 21 losses.
