Garrick Higgo wins 2025 Corales Puntacana Championship

Garrick Higgo of Johannesburg, South Africa won the 2025 Corales Puntacana Championship in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic on Sunday. This was Higgo’s second PGA title, as he previously won the 2021 Palmetto Championship in Jasper County, South Carolina.
On Sunday. Higgo posted a four round score of -14. He had a first round score of eight-under-par 64, a second round score of four-under-par 68, third round score of two-under-par 70, and a fourth round score of even par 72.
There was a similarity between Higgo’s win this past weekend in the Dominican Republic, and Justin Thomas’s win this past weekend at the RBC Heritage in Hilton Head, South Carolina. In both victories, the champion’s best round was the first round. Thomas had a first round score of ten-under-par 61.
There were 10 other golfers in contention this past weekend at the Corales Puntacana Championship. The five golfers tied for second place at -13 were Americans Keith Mitchell of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Joel Dahmen of Clarkston, Washington, and Michael Thorbjornsen of Cleveland, Ohio, Germany’s Jeremy Paul and Argentina’s Alejandro Tosti. There were two golfers tied at -12 and two strokes back. There you could find Vince Whaley of Lexington, Kentucky, and Chan Kim of Honolulu, Hawaii. Meanwhile, three golfers were tied for ninth place at -11 and three strokes back. This trio were Germany’s Matti Schmid and Americans Charley Hoffman of San Diego, California, and Ben Martin of Greenwood, South Carolina.
Higgo is the first South African to win on the PGA Tour in one year and a half. The last was Erik van Rooyen of Bellville, who won the 2023 World Wide Technology Championship in Mexico.Â
