FREE: Pinjarra Scarpside Selections & Staking Plan: Thursday 5th May
May 5, 2022

Keen to get involved today on the Scarpside with a few runners well-placed throughout the card.
Race 1 – 12:56PM HYGAIN – FEEDING CHAMPIONS SINCE 1983 MAIDEN (1000 METRES)
5. Henry Has Spoken – 2. Capo Veloce – 9. Itsatrap – 10. Linden Lady
Race 2 – 1:32PM TABTOUCH BETTER YOUR CLUB MAIDEN (1000 METRES)
2. Friday Knight – 1. Real Senor – 8. Rakiura – 9. Duchess Dream
Friday Knight
Horse has got huge X factor about him. Been off the scene since his 3yo days in 2020, where despite being green as grass, he was well thought of and far from disgraced despite doing everything wrong behind horses the likes of Brooklyn Pier and Gemma’s Son. His most recent trial was super, I loved the way he responded to the stick and some vigorous riding, he’s got a booming turn of foot on him, he’s just been a work in progress. Gets to a very (did I say very?) weak maiden up the Pinjarra straight 5, where (if he can run straight) he can utilise that terrific straight line sprint that he has got. If he balances up and doesn’t throw the race away, this is all over.

Race 3 – 2:12 PM GREAT NORTHERN SUPERCRISP MAIDEN (1300 METRES)
1. My Boy Eddy – 2. Beloved Star – 5. Bent Leg Boris – 3, Let Them All Talk
Race 4 – 2:47PM ELECTRICAL CONSULTANCY WA MAIDEN (1300 METRES)
10. Awesome Rival – 4. Uncompromised – 9. Divine Flirt – 2. Darn Noble
Awesome Rival
Has been trialling up very nicely for Michael Lane. At most recent, went to the line as good as subsequent winner Hola Marea and was having a far softer time of it, all 3 hitouts have been super impressive and signalled that she has graduated from her 2 yo prep as a stronger, smarter 3yo filly. Next to no speed engaged here, Parnham should be able to get across from barrier 8 and land in a very nice trailing position and from there, I think she looks really hard to beat. Keen. The price has been whittled away over the last 24hrs and under even money isn’t of interest, happy to play at $2.60 upwards, wait for Betfair.
2.5 Units WIN @$2.60+ BSP
Race 5 – 3:22PM BOWRA & O’DEA FUNERAL DIRECTORS HANDICAP (1600 METRES)
6. Special Picture – 9. Designated Drinker – 2. Keytrade – 5. Choice Command
Special Picture
Thought Special Picture was really unlucky last start when held up from on straightening in a CL3 behind Penny’s Afield, that race has since proven to be a very solid form reference, with Albukhturi running really well in a 66+ last Saturday, Wakan Tanka bolting in since and Shadow Girl running 2nd to a flying Ground Braker yesterday. She’s a naturally slow beginner, so she will be out the back in the run but the Scarpside straight will suit her down to the ground if Shelby can stay within striking distance.
1.5 Units WIN
Designated Drinker
Going to save here on Designated Drinker who I thought was really good behind Ground Braker last start when not suited by that farcical tempo, with that runner since coming out and winning again yesterday. Regains the services of Johnston Porter, maps for a gun run from barrier 2 and should be going very close.
0.5 Units WIN
Race 6 – 4:00PM SKY RACING.TV PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIP HEAT (1200 METRES)
7. Power Of St George – 2. Dark Assault – 14. Rulelee – 12. Star Present
Power Of St George
Off the back of his most recent trial, I think the big fella could be back. Went to the line for the majority of the straight toe for toe with subsequent 2nd placegetter in the Northam Stakes Red Can Man, who was under hard riding with Secret Plan, Kaptain Kaos and Free Trade behind him, it was a very hot trial and he looks to be in super order. From barrier 3, Joe Azzopardi will have options and the long, winding Scarpside straight will suit his long striding, booming finish down to the ground. $5.00 available with some is more than enough to get involved.
1.5 Units WIN
Dark Assault on his day is dangerous, especially with Johnston Porter in the saddle. A big run from Rulelee wouldn’t surprise here either, she looks progressive.
Race 7 – 4:40PM TABTOUCH YOU’VE GOT THE TOUCH HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
5. Lassoo The Moon – 1. Stylax – 2. Let’s Galahvant – 4. Mong Khon
Lassoo The Moon
Think this is a really nice horse for Simon Barrass. Led all the way on the Scarpside to win on debut from a wide alley, which is no mean feat given it is such a long straight for the chasers to hit top gear. Took a sit in his most recent trial and he was taking ground late off some really handy horses under double wraps for O’Donnell, it was a super piece of work. Pads are usually a big red flag for me but I’m going to take on trust that he trialled in them and think he looks a horse that is capable of going through the grades. Keen, O’Donnell just needs to navigate a slightly sticky draw from barrier 7.
