FREE: Ascot Selections & Staking Plan: Saturday 26th March
March 26, 2022

WA Oaks day and some real dark clouds loom overhead, could be our first rain-affected meeting in a very long time. Rail out 3m and a potential soft track makes for a very interesting meeting!
Race 1 – 12:22PM AMELIA PARK PLATE (1000 METRES)
4. Swear To God – 7. Nunes – 2. Pot Shot – 5. Loopy’s Baby
Swear To God
Have loved the trials of Swear To God. Colt by Playing God, his 3 trials to date have been terrific in displaying high, sustained almost effortless speed and a durability to lead a trial and win while also take a sit and zap them under very light riding, think he looks very smart and professional for a 2yo colt. From the draw, I feel he has the potential to push Revitup (now scratched) if he’s fast enough early to one able to find a spot in behind and stalk her every move.
1 Unit WIN
Race 2 – 1:02PM TABTOUCH WESTSPEED PLATINUM AUTUMN SERIES HEAT (1000 METRES)
5. Snipillicious – 8. Sioux City – 6. Premium Choice – 1. Silkinize
Race 3 – 1:42PM LETS CELEBRATE CITY OF BELMONT HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
3. Speed Dream – 6. Critical Altitude – 5. Lord Augustus – 1. Alien From Mars
Speed Dream
1st up no trial for Roland Piercey and last time we saw him 1st up no trial, he went around in a 66+ over the 1200m when finishing 2nd to Secret Plan in an incredibly strong field for the grade, that day he’s beaten home Comfort Me, Sassy Trader, Eeyore Wayz, Creator to name a few more than convincingly. His strike rate hurts, but this by far the easiest race that he has seen in some time. The key I feel for Whiting will be keeping him off the fence, he’s quite a big, striding horse so if Whiting gets shuffled in, with so many roadblocks in this field, I’d be a little worried whether he can find room enough in time. The initial $2.70 was too short for a horse I find hard to trust, but $3.30 in this field will do me in getting involved.
2 Units WIN
Race 4 – 2:22PM SCHWEPPES HANDICAP (1600 METRES)
10. Buster Bash – 5. Big Bada Boom – 6. Sentimental Queen – 2. Friaresque
Buster Bash
You’ll struggle to find a better placed and better weighted horse than Buster Bash. Last start in a CL3 Bennett led them what I could only call a merry dance. Burned 5 lengths in front of the field early, slowed right down and stacked them up mid race before taking off again and absolutely bolting in. That mid-race slow down to stack them up and then sprint so convincingly away from them was the most impressive aspect of that victory for me. Bennett maps to walk to the top here unopposed, drops 7kgs on that effort carrying only the featherweight 52kgs, think he’ll kick clear on the bend and they’re going to need to be very, very good to run him down. She knows this horse so well and think the mile is perfect for him.
4 Units WIN
Race 5 – 3:00PM HEINEKEN 3 HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
2. Kia Ora Star – 1. Lipstick Flickers – 4. Phoneme – 8. Fred Dag
Kia Ora Star
I have been waiting for Kia Ora Star to get back to this trip for a while now, and while the map looks awkward on paper, I have no doubt in my mind if he follows Lipstick Flickers across there is going to be a spot for him and Rawiller. What are horses the likes of Holy Ghost, Excelestial, Megazone, Point Taken, Fred Dag going to do? Nothing initially, they’ll flop out and sort themselves out midfield and worse than, there’s only 4 horses in the race here who will want to find a spot here, and he is one of them. The fact he won’t lead here, or find the breeze, I love because I actually think he is a far better horse when taking a suit. You look 3 starts ago in a 72+ behind Kenyluck over the 1200m, he’s run home in the fastest L400/200 splits of the entire meeting from near last. There an air of uncertainty, but gee, if he can find the back of Lipstick Flickers from 9, you’d be very quietly confident.
1.5 Units WIN
Race 6 – 3:37PM CROWN PERTH HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
2. Panzdown – 8. Buzzoom – 4. Cryptic Love – 5. Chantorque
Race 7 – 4:12PM SCHWEPPES-MELVISTA STAKES (2200 METRES)
10. Alaskan God – 5. Henchard – 2. Rokanori – 4. Pale Rider
Alaskan God
Alaskan God just looks the winner to me. Comes through the different form, last start didn’t just beat a field of some pretty seasoned, handicap stayers but absolutely blew them out of the water. The way he was travelling there you could have got in the queue at the 600m. Gets weight relief, has been earmarked as a genuine staying prospect throughout his short career to date, draws well in 5 to hold a spot midfield with cover off the fence for Parnham who hops off Henchard to ride him. Devil’s advocate says if he does get too far back or runs into traffic and they do go slowly out in front it could bring him undone, but I’m backing Chris in to keep him out of trouble and think he can firmly cement himself top seed for the WATC Derby here on the weekend.
2.5 Units WIN
Race 8 – 4:50PM CITY OF BELMONT-WA OAKS (2400 METRES)
9. Lady Chant – 10. Arcadia Gem – 1. Constant Dreaming – 2. Feels Danish
Lady Chant
Liked the runs of outsider Lady Chant and Queen of Jerusalem from different formlines, they look like they’ll stay. Obviously more unknown commodities but I thought Lady Chant went huge there, expensive yearling they have a big opinion of and convinced she will stay and will get out to a very big price late in the piece.
0.5 Units WIN
Arcadia Gem
Arcadia Gem was terribly suited by the tempo in the Natasha when getting a mile out of her ground, will different appreciate it more genuine and bred to stay all day. I actually really liked the way she hit the line and is in the best Grand Final stable in the state.
0.5 Units WIN
Race 9 – 5:30PM BELMONT CITY OF OPPORTUNITY HANDICAP (1600 METRES)
